INSTALLATION TYPE

New Construction

New Construction windows have a nailing flange around the perimeter allowing for easy installation from the exterior of a new home build, an addition, or any other time when new siding will be applied after the windows are put in. ing will be done. Openings in the facade of the home can be built to fit standard window sizes, but custom sizes can be done when desired.

Replacement / Insert

When an effort is being made not to disturb the exterior of an existing home, replacement windows can be installed from the interior in within the frame of an original window. They are custom sized to fit each opening in the home and have all the other features, details, and options that a new construction window offers.

WINDOW OPERATION TYPE

Double Hung

The most popular type of window, double hungs feature two separate sashes that each travel up and down on a track, passing over one another when the window is open and locking together when the window is closed.

Casement

Casements are windows hinged on the side, and can be cranked or pushed out to vent. Traditionally used as accent areas (such as above a kitchen sink), casements allow for so much open glass they have become very popular across entire homes.

Awning

Similar to a casement window, but turned on its side, awnings have hinges on the top of the window. Due to size limitations these are typically used as accent windows in certain areas of the home.

Picture Windows

Windows that do not operate at all are called picture windows. They can be made to very large sizes allowing for lots of natural light and offering great exterior views.

Shapes

A class of picture windows, shapes can be angular to match the pitch of a roof line, arched above a grand foyer, or even a small round window nestled into the gable of an attic.

Bay or Bow Windows

Bay and Bow Windows are three, four, or five windows ganged together. Typically the center units are pictures, with the outer units (flankers) being double hungs or casements. These windows protrude from the facade of the house, allowing a bright display shelf or cozy seat on the interior.

Gliders

Gliders are like a miniature sliding door, but used as a window. They can provide a large amount of light and ventilation.

Specialty

There are a number of other types of windows that don’t fit into any of the other classes such as bifolds, multi-slides, folding, hoppers, or garden. Typically these are used in specific situations in the home where the design calls for something different.
